Generally speaking, my earring designs can be converted from pierced to clip-on quite easily, although the process is not without technical issues! For example:
Original deep red sponge coral earring on the right, copper wire, niobium earwire
In this case (two reserved pairs that I'm working on for a customer, a new one, clip-on, and the original one that appeared in my etsy shop on ear wires) the originals are on dark copper and niobium ear wires. Try to find a reasonably-priced clip-on to match those! I thought about gold-filled, which would be my preference because of its non-allergenic properties, but again the clips would cost three times the earrings. The warm color of gold works well with sponge coral, so for the new clip-ons I decided to try gold-plated on gold-plated wire with small brass jump rings.
Almost done; these beads are more orange-toned and wires need a tweak or two
I wanted to preserve the "dangle", that lovely swing and sway you get with a good ear wire. Clip-ons can sometimes be a little static, so I decided to drop the wrapped bead from the finding with two small jump rings.
Close-up shows the beautiful markings on these beads.
With a little help from our local bead store lady, Cherie, I found the most comfortable clip-ons possible. They are in fact a sort of dual-action clip/screw on, which allows a wide range of adjustment for a non-pinching fit. I had never worked with these before, and at first was faintly skeptical; but after trying a pair on my own sensitive lobes, I confess - most impressive! (Thanks, Cherie!)
Two pretty pairs of earrings.
